I know next to nothing about Mechwarrior so I couldn't tell you it's effectiveness in combat with it. Keep in mind that this a is a first generation weapon system from the mid 21st century and as far as I know Mechwarrior takes place in the distant future.
It's stabilizing computers can handle the balancing issue. (in retrospect it was more for visual appeal) Remember the Stealth would never be able to fly without it's advanced stabilizing computers. As for the drums on the shoulders they could be directional EMP pulse generators or just details I will leave that up to you the viewer.
the small torso is not just a balance issue, it is also an armor issue, considering what may (or may not) go into the waist of a mech, the amount of torso armor is most likely woefully inadequate. Not to mention that a thicker torso also gives more support to the large upper area.
As for the axe/sword, depending on material used, cleave infantry out of a defensive position, destroy a tank (or just kill the crew), destroy buildings, and so on. Would be fearsome in an urban environment.
As I said the art is good, so take no offense to this scifi junky's nitpicking.
it's cool man these are all things I did consider as i was going threw the design but I didn't want over too far from the Japanese influence of the design. If I was going more real world with the layout It wouldn't be humanoid at all , I decided more fantasy than reality with the design of it. Anyway thanks for commenting. I think I will be working a few more environmental designs next.
Quite the interesting mix between more human-shaped Japanese ideas and the blocky, conservative ideas more associated with American developers. Not sure how effective an alloy sword could ever actually be at that kind of scale, but it certainly matches the aesthetic. All in all, it's just cool to look at.
Ah the sword is more for Shock and Awe but it would be made of composite materials it has a core of depleted uranium interwoven with super carbon fibers and a ceramic coating the body of the blade. It also vibrates at an extremely high pulse rate making i an extremely effective cutting weapon. Also with enough force the blade can cause an kinetic implosion, it be an highly effective tank killing weapon at close range. I hope that fills in the blanks on it. Oh and thanks for the high praise I rather enjoyed designing it.
I guess I can see that. In my own universe, the only reason giant mecha have melee weapons, and most of the reason there are any human-shaped ones, is because they are very, very good at killing other giant mecha.
